Manchester United have been gradually pursuing a move for Rafael Leao and have now been given the encouragement to make further in-roads.

Sport Witness covered the Red Devils’ initial contact for the Portugal international. This is because of Jorge Mendes’ involvement in the deal, as the super-agent is working closely with AC Milan to secure a new club for Leao.

The Portuguese attacker hasn’t had a great season for the Rossoneri, having been at odds with manager Max Allegri in recent weeks.

Leao has set high standards for himself but is failing to live up to those this season. Milan fans have been left frustrated with his inability to find consistency, as physical issues have popped up too.

Manchester United continue to consider a move, and now the Italian media is pushing another Milan player.

AC Milan seeking sales

Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo reports that Milan will consider major sales before the end of June. This will allow them to completely restructure their squad in the summer, especially if they secure capital gains.

This will make them consider offers for the best of their players. Manchester United’s interest in Leao is mentioned but the Red Devils are also said to be considering Christian Pulisic.

The American, like his teammate, has failed to reach the ten-goal mark this season. He hasn’t scored once in 2026, despite being a key player in the first half of the campaign.

This is making Milan consider his exit and they wouldn’t mind a sale to Manchester United. Michael Carrick’s side have qualified for the Champions League and that status can play an important role in a move for either player.

Our take: United should keep their eyes peeled

Milan’s attack in general hasn’t caught fire. This is because of Allegri’s system, as the likes of Leao and Pulisic thrive more when they have the ball. Their off the ball work isn’t a strength and Allegri’s setup exposes their weaknesses.

While Leao has had discipline issues, the same isn’t true for Pulisic. He has contributed to over 20 goals in the past two seasons.

Manchester United need wide attackers in the summer and the 27-year-old USA international is at the peak of powers. Monitoring him makes a lot of sense, especially since he will have a point to prove if returning to England.
