Jadon Sancho’s failed move to Manchester United this summer is not to blame for his lack of form this season.
That’s according to Borussia Dortmund’s head of licensed players Sebastien Kehl, who has backed the forward to rediscover his top form before too long.
As you’ll be aware, Sancho was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer, with it widely believed and reported that the deal would happen at some point.
It didn’t, though, with United refusing to pay Dortmund’s huge asking price and instead turning their attention elsewhere come the end of the window.
That left Sancho in Germany and looking to continue his development with Dortmund, where he has quickly risen to become one of the top youngsters in Europe.
That is something he has so far struggled to do, with just two goals and four assists in nine games so far.
While far from poor numbers by any means, they are far from his usual level, with Kicker stating the ‘magic of this wonderful dribbler has vanished’ and his numbers show a ‘disappointing’ year so far.
Naturally, most would say the speculation about Manchester United has ended up affecting the player, but Kehl insists that isn’t the case.
Speaking to Kicker, he claims that Sancho is ‘completely focused’ on Dortmund and ‘wants the maximum success for the team’.
He insists that they ‘have to go through this together’ and the ‘temporary phenomenon’ of his bad form ‘will soon vanish into thin air’.
That is certainly the hope, with Sancho certainly nowhere near as good as he can be as far as those in Germany are concerned. Whether that’s because of the United transfer rumours, is up for debate.
