Earlier this month, we relayed news from Spain that Manchester United have made an approach for Wolverhampton Wanderers star Rúben Neves.

At the weekend, the midfielder opened the door for a transfer after admitting he wants to play in the Champions League next season. The Red Devils are fourth and need a point from two matches to qualify for the Champions League.

Manchester United’s desire to sign the Wolves player is explained by Monday’s Sport.

The newspaper have taken his latest comments as an indication he won’t continue at Wolves next season. They add Barcelona are said to be his next destination, with whom the 26-year-old has already reached an agreement for a four-year deal.

Neves is keen to join Barca despite receiving ‘more important offers’ from the likes of Manchester United. It’s said Erik ten Hag’s side have made an approach for him in recent months, to find out the conditions to carry out the deal.

Manchester United are ‘very interested in signing him’ but the Wolves player didn’t want to listen to offers from them or other English clubs.

Neves has opted for Barca. He and his camp are optimistic the deal to take him to the Camp Nou will go through. The operation is not closed yet but ‘everything is advanced’.

This would force Manchester United to look elsewhere to strengthen their midfield in the summer.
