Sporting CP beat Sturm Graz 2-0 on Tuesday evening, in their latest match in the new-look UEFA Champions League. With just a few minutes left of the victory, Geovany Quenda was brought on.
Despite being just 17-years-of-age, he’s made 13 appearances for Sporting so far this season. A Bola call him the ‘revelation’ of Sporting’s campaign, and Roberto Martinez even called him up to the Portugal squad for September’s match against Scotland.
There he got to meet Cristiano Ronaldo, and, by his own admission, ended up consumed by embarrassment.
Manchester United scout nearly every Sporting match and have done for a number of years. There’s a line of players who have made the move from Estádio José Alvalade to Old Trafford, which consists of Ronaldo, Nani, Marcos Rojo and Bruno Fernandes.
Geovany Quenda plays as a right midfielder or right winger. He recently signed a contract renewal which gave him a deal until June 2027 and a release clause of €100m.
Even if Manchester United were to agree a deal, Quenda can’t move until next summer because he only turns 18 in April.
