A week ago, Correio da Manhã reported that Manchester United are ‘very attentive’ to the situation of Benfica star Darwin Núñez.

The 22-year-old has been the standout player for the Eagles and has scored 33 goals and set up four more for his teammate this season. This also includes six goals in 10 Champions League matches.

Manchester United have already confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager.

The Uruguay international recently announced he was changing agents. Some reports have stated he’s moving to Jorge Mendes, and Spanish newspaper AS state the super-agent will meet ‘several English clubs’ to advance a move and also discuss the details needed to carry out the operation.

There are up to seven teams ‘willing to undertake’ the signing of the former Almería man, but Mendes will first meet those who have shown most interest. It’s claimed that Manchester United are ‘in the lead’ because Núñez is ‘an express request’ of Ten Hag.

AS explain the South American’s price tag will ‘not drop below €100m’. In fact, Benfica’s intention is that his price reaches €130m, surpassing the €127m paid by Atlético Madrid for João Félix in 2019.

There’s no mention if Manchester United or any other club are willing to spend in excess of €100m to acquire Núñez’s services in the upcoming window.
