Over the past few months, the Italian media have stated that Liverpool are Juventus’ rival in the race for Teun Koopmeiners. There’s also been claims of interest from other English clubs, including Manchester United.
Calciomercato cover the Serie A side’s interest in the Atalanta star, and they mention Liverpool and Manchester United.
Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli has been working on this deal for a while, and it hasn’t been easy for him so far.
The Netherlands international prefers to continue in Italy, where the Turin club are keen. The Old Lady can offer €40m plus their own player as part of the deal. The report says Juventus’ Dean Huijsen is the only player that attracts Atalanta as of now.
Arne Slot managed his compatriot at AZ Alkmaar which is thought to be partly behind the interest, and it’s stated Liverpool and Juve have to be wary of Manchester United.
That’s because Calciomercato say the Red Devils are ‘willing to immediately pay a max sum of €60-70m’ for Koopmeiners.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side aren’t willing to entertain this, as they believe the Dutchman’s valuation could increase after the Euros. If that happens, the report says even €70m wouldn’t be enough to convince Atalanta.
There’s been no concrete claims of Manchester United’s interest in Koopmeiners, and they are unlikely to invest a large chunk of their transfer budget on him. It feels like the Red Devils are being used to put pressure on Liverpool and Juve.
