Manchester United’s reported idea of offering cash plus a player to Napoli for Victor Osimhen is unlikely to be accepted by the Italian side, regardless of who United may offer.
That’s according to journalist Emanuele Cammaroto, via Napoli Magazine, who reports the growing idea is unlikely to be interesting to Napoli.
Several reports this week have insisted that Manchester United are trying to work out a deal for Osimhen in the summer.
The Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray after making it clear he wanted to leave Napoli last summer amid a fall-out with the club.
He found suitors in short supply and ultimately turned down a move to Saudi Arabia, instead using a loan in Turkey as a stop gap before potentially finding a new club this summer.
Manchester United need a striker as both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have proven to be incapable of leading the line this season.
A report this week stated they were considering offering a deal to Napoli that would see them offer €40m plus Hojlund for Osimhen this summer. Cammaroto insists that won’t work, though, and neither would including Zirkzee.
“The player has long expressed himself and there are no signs of an opening for a return to Napoli,” he said.
“The most probable way is that Napoli go for a transfer at the beginning of the market and there is the Manchester United shot, which insists on a way that will not find a positive response, that of inserting a quid pro quo.
“First offer €40 million plus Hojlund, who Napoli like but not under these conditions. As a second hypothesis there is Zirkzee, who Napoli and Conte also like but De Laurentiis wants €75m for Osimhen.”
