Moise Kean has rebuilt his reputation in recent years, with Manchester United keeping a close eye on the striker.
The Italian returned to Juventus after his spell at Everton but that move never quite worked out. At Fiorentina, things have been far better.
He scored 19 league goals last season, leading to him becoming a regular for the Azzurri. The ongoing campaign has proved to be a struggle, as Kean has only eight goals in Serie A.
Fiorentina’s skirmishes with relegation have impacted his form.
This hasn’t stopped English clubs from closely monitoring Kean. Sport Witness covered Tottenham’s interest earlier this year, amidst speculation that Roberto De Zerbi could be keen on uniting with his compatriot in London.
It doesn’t end there, as Manchester United appear much more keen.
Red Devils interested for a while
Corriere dello Sport have a detailed report about the forward’s situation at Fiorentina.
Moise Kean has had a tibia problem for a few weeks and is stepping up training to return to action this week. But the report doubts if he will stay in Florence beyond this season.
Manchester United have ‘consistently followed’ him for months, with their interest being traced back to last year. Al-Qadsiah were the only club to make a formal offer back then but the player rejected that.
The Red Devils remain in the picture, with Kean’s current deal having a release clause worth €62m. This will be active between 1st July and 15th July, which is a bit of a problem for Fiorentina.
It denies them from having any control over the player, especially if English clubs approach.
Release clause goes beyond real value
Moise Kean has witnessed a resurgence but paying his hefty release clause makes little sense. If anything, it will only help Fiorentina earn more than they actually expect from the striker’s exit.
Manchester United have no reason to pay that amount either. Benjamin Sesko has now become a key player, with Matheus Cunha also capable of playing upfront. Bryan Mbeumo has done the same, which shows they don’t need a high cost striker even if Joshua Zirkzee leaves.
