Manchester United will undoubtedly have a big advantage in any race for Victor Gyökeres as it’s clear Rúben Amorim has a ‘special connection’ with the striker.
That’s according to CNN commentator André Pipa to Mais Futebol, who believes the Sweden star would fix the ‘major flaw’ that currently hampers Manchester United’s squad.
Gyökeres is one of the leading stars of Europe at this moment in time after managing 23 goals and four assists in 18 games in all competitions for Sporting Club de Portugal this season.
He has picked up where he left off last season, when he managed 43 goals and 15 assists in 50 games in all competition for the Portuguese side following a move from Coventry City.
He is now being linked with a major move sooner rather than later, with a host of leading clubs in Europe thought to be keen on him, even if they need to activate his €100m release clause.
Manchester United have been pushed to the front of the queue at this moment in time thanks to Amorim’s move to Old Trafford in this international break.
Gyökeres managed 66 goals and 23 assists under him at Sporting over the last year and a half and Pipa believes that gives them a special advantage, even if Amorim has insisted he won’t sign any players from his former club in the January transfer window.
“It seems obvious to me that Amorim, Ruben Amorim, has a special connection with Gyökeres,” he told Mais Futebol.
“The big flaw, looking at the Manchester United squad, is that there is a great spearhead missing, it could be Gyökeres. Manchester United not only the main interested party he has a great advantage.
“They have a coach who knows him, and I don’t know what Gyökeres idea is, whether he likes it or not, I personally prefer to see him in Liverpool, but if he has to go to United, I think it is a great contract for Amorim, because Amorim knows him, and the player knows the coach, and you know, there is a possibility, yes.”
