It’s been over a month that Manchester United announced Erik ten Hag as their manager and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has been constantly linked to the Red Devils since then.

The midfielder played under the 52-year-old coach when the pair were at Ajax and the latter wants to reunite with his former player at Old Trafford.

Manchester United wanting De Jong is now discussed by multiple Spanish outlets.

El Chiringuito journalist Jose Alvarez Haya claims the Premier League side and Paris Saint-Germain are ‘interested’ in the 25-year-old. Haya’s colleague, Darío Montero, states the La Liga side could collect €60-70m from his sale this summer.

Manchester United are named as one of the Netherlands international’s suitors in today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.

On Wednesday, Barca manager Xavi Hernández admitted that De Jong is a ‘key player’, but his stay will depend on the club’s economic situation.

His sale could help the Blaugrana raise funds and lower the wage bill. The midfielder has also ‘not finished exploding in terms of his performances’. These factors favour De Jong’ sale this summer.

Towards the end of the report, Mundo tags both Manchester United and PSG.

The report states these two sides are ‘waiting’ for the Dutchman and ‘do not lack money’ to carry out his signing. However, De Jong’s desire is to continue at Barcelona.

Over at Sport, they state De Jong is keen to continue with his current employer, but there are doubts due to the competition he will be facing next season.

It’s further said that Manchester United are the ‘most interested’ team and are ‘bidding the most’ for him.

The Red Devils have ‘already contacted the player’ and explained their project to him, where he can be the ‘one of the mainstays’ under Ten Hag. They want to know his ‘final position’ so that they can shape up the new project under Ten Hag.

Manchester United ‘cannot wait any longer’ and would want to know his final position on making a move to England, thus giving him an ‘ultimatum’, as Sport put it. Should he snub the Premier League side, then they will look at another top midfielder.

De Jong is also aware of interest from PSG, Bayern Munich and a few other clubs, but will not leave the Camp Nou unless Barca push him out of the club.

At Barca, all they ‘want is cash’ and wouldn’t mind the ex-Ajax man’s sale this summer. Although there are other clubs interested in the Dutchman, Sport say that as of today, ‘United are the only one who can approach’ the high figure needed to secure his services.
