Signing Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley in January as a stop gap, Manchester United are likely to try and add a long-term solution at striker next summer.
Who they will go for remains to be seen, but one name continues to be linked with the Red Devils, and that’s Victor Osimhen.
There’s no denying the Nigeria international’s talent in front of goal, as he has shown this season with Napoli that he is up there with the best, at least statistic wise.
That’s why Manchester United have been looking at him, with claims they tried their luck last summer, without really give it a real go due to Cristiano Ronaldo still being there.
With the Old Trafford now free of the Portuguese forward, they could give it a more concrete go in the next transfer window, but they are set to face some rather large competition if RAI journalist Ciro Venerato is to be believed.
Speaking to La Domenica Sportiva, relayed by Mondo Napoli, he said: “If Osimhen’s representatives or the footballer show the desire to have new experiences elsewhere, Napoli could sell him for very high figures of €120m or €140m. Many top clubs are on the Nigerian: first and foremost Real Madrid, because Carlo Ancelotti dotes on him, then Manchester United, Tottenham (if Harry Kane leaves) and Chelsea.”
Therefore, it seems that Manchester United could find themselves in a tussle with the La Liga giants for Osimhen, although whether he would play as much in Spain remains to be seen.
After all, it’s quite clear there is a ready made spot for him at Old Trafford, with a gaping lack of a natural striker in the squad, Weghorst aside.
