As Portuguese newspaper A Bola today features a front page story saying there’s a ‘red alert’ at Benfica for Gonçalo Ramos, Manchester United obviously get a mention.
The reason for the outlet’s headline is that there’s an unnamed club wiling to spend €60m on the striker. The Eagles wouldn’t sell him for that, as they demand at least €80m, but that’s a sign to get prepared for a potential attractive bid.
Even though A Bola don’t know which club are willing to pay that amount, they do mention two interested clubs. Those are Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United.
Regarding PSG’s chase, it’s claimed their interest ‘isn’t new’, as they’d like to sign a centre-forward to allow Kylian Mbappé to play on the wings.
As for Manchester United, it’s claimed the club ‘evaluate the possibility of advancing with a concrete offer’, as Erik ten Hag ‘admires the striker’s qualities’.
Still, it’s highlighted that the Red Devils have ‘many options’ in the market, so that may be a reason why they’re not that focused on Ramos for now.
It’s a fact that Manchester United scout Benfica for the whole season and they know Ramos’ price very well, even because last year, it had been said the Eagles would only let him go if his €120m release clause was triggered. So in case it’s the Red Devils who are showing willingness to only spend €60m on the signing, that sounds like a move to see if Benfica will drop their price.
On the other hand, if it’s the competitors who can only spend €60m on Ramos, that’s a good sign for Erik ten Hag’s side to outbid them.
