If you were waiting for a Gareth Bale to Manchester United rumour to really kick off the summer madness then your wait is over.
El Confidencial, who were first and best on Angel Di Maria to Manchester United, Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli, and very good on Mesut Ozil to Arsenal, say Manchester United are set to make an offer for the Real Madrid star.
Manchester United have long held an infatuation with Gareth Bale, it’s one of football’s great unrequited loves, and the English club could yet again be making a move. Not taking up his destiny as the next Ryan Giggs, Bale appears to be quite happy in Spain, and it’d take something big to prise him away.
El Confidencial state Manchester United have earmarked €120m to sign Bale, which they point out is the same amount Juventus are said to want for Paul Pogba.
Florentino Perez is once again stated as a big fan of Bale, seeing him as the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne, but El Confidencial aren’t sure what Perez would do if Bale asked to go home. The player’s will is crucial, with it being stated without a Bale desire to leave, a Real Madrid exit is ‘unthinkable’.
El Confidencial have been more tabloidy recently than usual, but their long term reputation is very good, relative to the rest of the Spanish media.
