Portuguese side Sporting this week released their financial report for the first quarter of the 2020/21 season. The document, which is available on their website, shows Manchester United have paid an extra €3m for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes.

The Lisbon club claim the payment was made after a set goals was reached by the Premier League side, but they don’t make it clear what it was.

The document restates that Manchester United paid an initial fee of €55m for the midfielder, and there’s another €25m that depends on performance bonuses.

When covering the news, newspaper A Bola says the total amount now reaches €58m, meaning this is the first time a bonus was triggered.

Back at the time Manchester United signed Bruno Fernandes, there were several claims from the Portuguese media regarding the bonuses.

Correio da Manhã reported many clauses, and since Sporting’s document says the amount was paid in August, there seems to be two options here. Either for the Champions League qualification, or the player’s first 20 starts for the club.

However, Correio da Manhã said that’d be €5m for each bonus, so at least in terms of amounts, they were probably wrong there.
