Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves has decided to wait and sign for Barcelona next summer, turning down interest from Manchester United this summer to do so.
That’s according to Sport, who say the midfielder is ‘convinced’ he can shine under Xavi at the Nou Camp.
Earlier today we covered a report from Spain that Barcelona had identified the Portuguese midfielder as their replacement for Sergio Busquets and were targeting him next summer.
They wanted a deal this summer but didn’t have the finances to do a deal, leaving other suitors to target him.
Manchester United were one of them and ‘contacted the agents’ representing the Wolves star to discuss a possible deal and sound out the possibility of making an offer.
However, Neves ‘showed little willingness’ to negotiate a deal, knowing of Barcelona’s interest in signing him.
He ultimately decided to stay with Wolves this season and wait for Barcelona to return for him next summer when they will have the money to get a deal over the line.
Super-agent Jorge Mendes is in the middle of the process, having spoken to Barcelona about him before the summer.
They asked him to get Wolves to lower their €50m demands to try and get the player, particularly with the likes of Manchester United showing an interest.
Relations between the two clubs are good despite that and with Neves making the move a priority, it’s expected he’ll secure it somehow next summer.
