Manchester United are considering making a move for RB Leipzig’s El Chadaille Bitshiabu in the winter market.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who report Manchester United would have to compete with AS Monaco and other clubs.
The 20-year-old had to wait until October to make his first league appearance of this season. A month later, he made his first start before suffering a hamstring injury. Since regaining full fitness in December, the centre-back has made one appearance.
L’Equipe say Bitshiabu, who is promising youngster, is seeking regular game time. His situation at the Bundesliga side has seen Lyon and Monaco take notice.
Injuries to Mohammed Salisu and Christian Mawissa have encouraged Monaco to sign a new centre-back. They have identified the Leipzig defender as a priority target and could sign him on loan without a purchase option.
Lyon could join their Ligue 1 counterpart in the race to sign the Frenchman. The two French clubs would face competition from elsewhere.
According to the newspaper, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen have asked about the young defender. The Red Devils and the German club are ‘considering making a loan offer with an option to buy’.
Last month, Bild reported Leipzig have imposed an internal ban on Bitshiabu’s transfer, either on loan or permanent, in January.
Manchester United interest doesn’t make a great deal of sense. They have Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven already.
