Having targeted a move for Adrien Rabiot on a free transfer these past few days, Manchester United ended up watching the Frenchman renew his contract with Juventus for an extra year.

Why he decided to snub the Red Devils has yet to be revealed, but that means the Old Trafford side have to move onto the next target on Erik ten Hag’s list.

Unfortunately for Manchester United fans, it is likely to bring back multiple flashbacks of past transfer windows, as Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Carlo Laudisa told Radio Kiss Kiss that the man in question is none other than Sergej Milinković-Savić.

Yes, that’s the same Sergej Milinković-Savić that has been linked every summer for the past three years or so without anything concrete ever taking place.

Lazio always had the player’s contract on their side, meaning Claudio Lotito could make large transfer requests to put off suitors, but this year is different as the Serbian only has one year left on his deal.

Therefore, the Serie A side are in a bit of a conundrum, as they might be forced to accept a reasonable offer for once for their star, or risk losing him on a free next year.

That’s why Manchester United might actually stand a chance at getting their long-term target, and probably why they are going to move for him.

When asked about Milinković-Savić’s situation amid interest from Milan, Laudisa said, relayed by Per Sempre Napoli: “Manchester United are coming forward due to Rabiot’s likely stay in Turin.”

It’s worth pointing out that the Rabiot extension has already been announced, meaning this would have been aired before it.

Either way, with the Frenchman now out of reach, it’s onto the next one for Manchester United, it seems.
