With Lyon blocking Manchester United’s chances of being able to reunite Nicolás Tagliafico with Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have now turned their attention to Marc Cucurella.

The Chelsea left-back doesn’t appear to be in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans at Stamford Bridge, and an exit to Old Trafford, where he would play regularly, at least while Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia recover from their injuries.

The latest on all this appears to come from Mundo Deportivo, who recall that Marcos Alonso was also targeted, but he’s turned down a move to Manchester United in favour of a stay in Barcelona.

That’s why the Red Devils are now ‘close to securing the arrival’ of the Chelsea left-back, as he appears to be a ‘guaranteed interim replacement’ for the two current left-backs at Old Trafford.

While it’s pointed out that Sergio Reguilon and Nicolas Tagliafico were also being looked at, a new update from France recently stated the latter was being blocked by his club.

This means that, Tottenham player aside, Cucurella is now the ‘overwhelming favourite’ to move to Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, over in Granada in Spain, many are awaiting developments in this transfer, as Ideal have an article stating that the arrival of the Chelsea defender is ‘key’ for the arrival of Manchester United’s Álvaro Fernández on loan.

It’s revealed that the Spanish side were expecting the arrival of the 20-year-old to have been ‘settled several days ago’, but the injuries to Shaw and Malacia forced Ten Hag to halt it for the time being.

In short, should Cucurella arrive at Manchester United, Fernández would be allowed to leave, something the player is patiently waiting for.
