It was looking promising, and now it appears to be heading in the right direction: Adrien Rabiot is very close to becoming a Manchester United player.

That’s according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, who took to Twitter to report that ‘an agreement in finalisation’ is currently underway between the Red Devils and the Frenchman’s entourage.

By that, we’re assuming he means they aren’t far off shaking hands on a deal, and the reporter then adds that ‘unless sensational twists’ take place, the midfielder ‘will be a new Manchester United player soon’.

The idea for this move started earlier this week after it became clear that their chances of signing Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona were dwindling.

Rabiot was never going to be Manchester United’s first choice to bolster their midfield, but when the opportunity presented itself following the 2-1 loss against Brighton at the weekend, they took it.

Previous reports have suggested the Premier League side will pay close to €20m (maybe around €18m) for the player, who will need to get his head down and work hard to convince the Old Trafford faithful.
