Joshua Zirkzee’s agent has been criticised for taking him to Manchester United, which is now a “cesspool”.
Those comments come from Franco Ordine, via Tuttomercatoweb, where various analysts have been discussing the idea of Zirkzee joining Roma.
The Dutch forward has been linked with a move to the Italian club for weeks after failing to leave Manchester United in the summer.
The belief is that he is not a part of the plans at Manchester United moving forwards. He only moved to Old Trafford last summer in a €42.5m move from Bologna.
Zirkzee had impressed in Italy for two years after joining from Bayern Munich. He has not been able to replicate his form in England, though. He’s not managed a goal or assist in four appearances this season. During the last campaign it was seven and three in 49 matches across all competitions.
Manchester United wrong choice for Joshua Zirkzee
The arrival of big summer signings like Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have now pushed him down the pecking order at Old Trafford. That’s seen him linked with Roma, who are keen to reshape their forward options, perhaps even in January.
Whether that move happens remains to be seen, but Ordine believes Zirkzee never should have made the move in the first place.
“The question isn’t whether he’s a fraud or a great player, but he took the wrong path,” he said.
“He ended up at a club that’s become a cesspool, just look at how Hojlund was reborn in Naples. The agent chose the money instead of thinking about his client’s career.”
