Even though Manchester United managed to sign Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season, it’s clear the Red Devils have other targets for the centre-forward position.
This subject is today approached by Dutch outlet Soccer News, who, to speak of Erik ten Hag’s search for a top scorer, had a word with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio about it.
It started with them pointing out that Manchester United have recently been linked to the likes of Victor Osihem, Benjamin Sesko and Gonzalo Ramos.
“I don’t think any of these transfers will get through in the winter transfer window,” Di Marzio told Soccer News.
“But I wouldn’t be surprised if United play for Victor Osimhen in the summer, because they wanted to sign him ahead of this season.”
Speaking of Osimhen, Di Marzio highlighted the skills of the Napoli star.
“They are great. And if Napoli win Serie A this season, my expectation is that they will let him go.”
And even though Osimhen is set to cost as much as €120m, Di Marzio doesn’t believe that will be an issue for the Red Devils.
“Man United have to pay at least €120m for him, but Premier League clubs have that option, so it could well happen. Manchester United certainly want to sign him, but there are other clubs who are planning the same. It is inevitable that his name will soon be mentioned in various boardrooms!”
Manchester United’s top scorer this season is Marcus Rashford, who has 18 goals, and no one comes close to him, as he’s followed by midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who only has six.
Weghorst last night scored his first goal for the club, but with the Red Devils likely to spend more on a striker of greater calibre, it’s hard to imagine him starting in Erik ten Hag’s side next season.
