David de Gea’s deal expires on June 30th and Erik ten Hag has asked Manchester United to sign a new goalkeeper even after giving his approval to extending the Spaniard’s contract.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the manager wants André Onana. They add Ten Hag is hopeful the Red Devils will ‘present an official offer’ to Inter Milan by Friday or next week ‘at the latest’.
Manchester United won’t have problems in agreeing personal terms with the 27-year-old. He earns €3m a year after tax, and it’s said they are ready to double his current salary.
The uncertainty around De Gea’s future, for now, is the stumbling block for the English club to reach an agreement with the Nerazzurri for the Cameroonian. Ten Hag’s side are in a ‘hurry’ to know the Spaniard’s decision on his future.
Without De Gea, Gazzetta say Manchester United’s offer for Onana would be around €40m plus bonuses. This won’t be enough to immediately receive approval from Inter, who value their star between €50m and €60m.
Over at Corriere dello Sport, they claim Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta and their sporting director, Piero Ausilio, are asking €60m for the stopper. It’s said the latter flew to England on Monday, likely to hold talks with the Red Devils for Onana.
Calciomercato also report Ausilo’s trip to England and they add he’s there carrying out negotiations with Manchester United. The website states Ten Hag’s side are ready to invest €50m while Inter are aiming for €60m including bonuses.
More developments awaited in the next few days.
