As soon as Manchester United and Benfica agreed the transfer of Alvaro Fernandez, reports from the English media stated the Red Devils will now have priority to sign João Neves.
The Portuguese press is still to confirm that, but newspaper Correio da Manhã does feature an interesting story on this subject today.
The outlet starts by claiming that Manchester United do want to sign João Neves for next season, and says that the talks with Benfica for Fernandez’s transfer helped to bring the clubs closer.
Still, the Eagles continue to be tough about the midfielder’s future, and don’t want to let him go for less than his €120m release clause. The player himself is very happy in Lisbon and doesn’t want to listen to offers this month, even if someone arrives to pay the clause.
Neves has been showing big talent at Benfica this season, and Manchester United are probably right in doing some early work to help his signing in the future.
We shall see how strong the Red Devils’ attempt will be next summer then…
