Morten Hjulmand has recently been named as a target for Manchester United, with interest building generally.
One of the reasons for those stories is that Red Devils star Bruno Fernandes praised the midfielder’s season for Sporting, who’ve just won the Portuguese title.
Danish outlet Tipsbladet today shares an interview with Hjulmand, and besides talking about how happy he is at the Lisbon side, he also commented on his future.
The player was asked about the comments made by Bruno Fernandes, and said he’s happy that the Manchester United star is watching him.
“It’s always great to receive praise from other big profiles. I know he’s a former Sporting player and he’s still a big fan of the club, so it’s great to know he’s still watching. It can only make me happy to receive praise from a player like him.”
Asked about his future, Hjulmand pointed out that the Premier League continues to be an objective for him.
“I’d say that it is a destination I could see myself going to in the future. Whether it’s a dream, I don’t know. But it is a goal for me to play in the Premier League one day.”
Reports in the English media this week highlighted Manchester United’s interest in Hjulmand. The Portuguese media, however, only covered relayed those claims and seems to have no information on interest from the Red Devils in the Sporting star.
The Lions spent €19.5m to sign the player from Lecce last summer. Following his good season with the Lisbon side, he’s now valued by Transfermarkt at €40m, and is protected by an €80m release clause.
