A few sources in Spain insist Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are all very keen on Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso.

And in neighbouring Portugal, there’s several newspapers insisting those same three clubs are also the ones tussling to sign Bruno Fernandes.

The situations are mirroring each other, even with Paul Pogba and Christian Eriksen both getting mentions as United and Spurs could be looking for their replacements.

Concentrating on Lo Celso, we’ve been a little wary of some of the Spanish claims about United, with it feeling they’re perhaps being used to pressure Tottenham, in a similar way to how Spurs may be being used in the Fernandes case.

A few days ago, it was claimed Manchester United signing Lo Celso for €75m had been discussed over lunch. It was a confusing story because the headline stated ‘Meeting with United for Lo Celso’, yet the text made it sound more like a Betis lunch, although it was held in London.

It appeared someone was trying to get the message out that Manchester United are prepared to pay €75m for the player.

Today, it was claimed the Premier League club are willing to pay €90m for Lo Celso, which of course makes no sense with it being higher than most Spanish sources believe the asking price is.

That was then followed by Diego Simeone telling the Argentine media he likes the player, which sees Atletico pulled further in.

ElDesmarque Sevilla now claim that despite Atletico interest, Manchester United are ‘best placed’… but if that’s based on all the previous reports it’s surely at least a little shaky.
