The Spanish media now has endless updates on Manchester United’s pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

Following reports from England which said the clubs have started talks for the transfer, which followed claims from Spain saying similar, Sport now features a piece explaining the stance of the Frenchman and the Santiago Bernabeu side in these negotiations.

Varane is said to have on the table an offer to renew his contract with Real Madrid, which expires in 2022, but is now ‘playing his cards masterfully’, as he knows about the interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain.

Sport writes that the La Liga giants initially put a price of €70m on the player, although that’s not thought to be realistic, since the player can leave for free next summer.

With Manchester United spending €85m on signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, it’s said the Red Devils don’t really have a lot more to spend this summer, and their offer for Varane won’t be over €45m.

So the outlet reckons ‘it wouldn’t be hard’ that a deal can be reached for around €50m. Still, a potential move won’t happen so fast, since Varane himself must first tell Real Madrid if he’s keen on renewing his contract with the club or not.

Manchester United are said to have ‘begun to negotiate’ the transfer.
