Manchester United have ‘asked’ about Joao Felix ahead of the summer transfer window, should he not end up staying at Chelsea.

That’s according to journalist Sergio Picos, who says Old Trafford could be the player’s next destination should he leave Atletico Madrid as expected.

Felix is currently on loan at Chelsea from the Spanish side after a falling out with Atleti manager Diego Simeone led to both parties finding a temporary exit.

Chelsea are believed to be keen on keeping the Portuguese star but that would require another huge investment, likely in the €100m range, a figure they are unwilling to commit on as yet.

That will also be dependent on whether they can qualify for the Champions League next season, which looks extremely unlikely at this moment in time.

That would leave Felix in limbo, with it made clear that he does not want to return to Atletico Madrid in the summer if he can avoid it.

The Spanish side would also be more than willing to let him go as well, having flourished without him in the side since his departure.

One solution could be Manchester United, according to Picos, who says they have always been interested in the Portugal star.

“Manchester United has always been that club that has been there to watch, that has asked about him,” he told AS.

“Since the departure of Cristiano you don’t have a big name up front either. That number 7 that Cristiano Ronaldo wore at Manchester United might not be a bad fit for the Portuguese.”
