Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Manchester United is one of those transfer rumours which is hugely frustrating. Claimed by many to be on the verge of being done, the details of such seem sketchy, and it’s like an arms race of a rumour… if one person claims it’s closer to being done then another has to say it’s even closer, and so on and so forth.
Right now, it must be *really* close. On Saturday Gianluca Di Marzio and others claimed that a deal was almost done, just needing the paperwork to get over the line. Agent Mino Raiola has been throwing chairs and breaking friendships and doing all he can to get Mkhitaryan the move of a lifetime after his great Borussia Dortmund season.
That’s not to snipe at the Armenia international, but Dortmund must know that around £30m for the player, who has a year left on his contract, is a pretty good deal for them.
Linked very heavily with a move to Liverpool previously, and this summer to Arsenal and Chelsea, Manchester United would now look to be the base Raiola has found.
To push things even closer, German journalist Rafa Honigstein tweeted on Sunday that Dortmund had sent an official to Manchester. That would very much make it sound like BVB are sick of the drama and want a deal done.
Therefore, given everything which has been said, and assuming Dortmund’s official arrived safely yesterday, there can be little reason a deal isn’t sorted out today. A kind of put up or shut up from Dortmund.
Even on this relatively short drama there can surely be no further getting closer, the next step must be an announcement of some kind.
