In mid March it was reported in England that Manchester City were taking firm steps to sign Saul from Atletico Madrid this summer.
Shortly afterwards, a source close to the situation told Sport Witness that Saul wasn’t close to a transfer to Pep Guardiola’s side and there’d not been any contact from the Premier League club.
That stance was quickly also taken up in Spain, and on Friday Marca reiterate it.
Manchester City are ‘not interested’.
The ‘reality is radically different’, says the Spanish newspaper, before brining Rodrigo into the situation again.
They state Pep Guardiola is keen on this Atletico Madrid midfielder, carrying on the Spanish claims with this theme. Manchester City would be willing to meet the player’s €70m buyout clause, and so would their neighbours United, along with Bayern Munich and PSG.
Rodri interest makes more sense, given that Fernandinho can’t carry on forever. The story doesn’t appear to be moving forward quickly, but it is only April.
