Manchester City have been linked with a move for Sporting boss Ruben Amorim in the last few weeks.
That isn’t the first time that the Portuguese has been linked with clubs in England, with Liverpool and West Ham also spoken of as potential destinations for him in the past.
The much sought-after manager has a contract at Sporting which runs until the summer of 2026 and A Bola have looked at his situation in some detail today.
They note Amorim’s comments to DAZN Austria and confirm that a new deal has been put forward by club president Frederico Varandas. It exists on paper and there is a possibility of him signing the contract.
Manchester City would have to trigger Amorim’s current release clause and while the Portuguese coach will wait, he won’t wait for long to sign the new deal. If not offer triggers the clause, he will sign the new contract.
Amorim is happy at Sporting and isn’t against the idea of extending his stay.
If Manchester City want to land him as a replacement for Pep Guardiola, they will have to hurry, and perhaps send some hints via a certain Hugo Viana.
