Claudio Echeverri arrived at Manchester City in January, a year after they completed his signing from River Plate and played 64 minutes from four games for the Premier League club.
Manchester City let the 19-year-old go out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer window, and he played 35 minutes from two games so far.
The attacking midfielder is determined to represent Argentina at the U20 World Cup that’ll kick-off in Chile later this month, but Bayer Leverkusen are refusing to let him leave.
This has already been confirmed by Bayer Leverkusen sporing director Simon Rolfes and Olé have relayed his comments.
“We’re going to need the player. He’s staying. That’s our opinion, and City’s too,” he said.
Olé then provide their own take and insist the Manchester City youngster is pushing to be at the upcoming U20 World Cup.
Despite Rolfes’ latest admission, Olé report Echeverri ‘isn’t giving up’ and ‘will try to exert pressure’ on the Bayer Leverkusen official to try and overturn his decision so that he can represent Argentina U20 in Chile.
The newspaper adds the Manchester City owned player is holding talks daily, likely with Bayer Leverkusen, and everything depends on them and Pep Guardiola’s side.
Time is running out for Echeverri as there are four days left for Argentina U20 to register their squad for the World Cup.
The tournament starts on September 27th, and the final will take place on October 19th, and if Argentina were to make it to the final, Echeverri [if he’s in the squad’ will miss at least four games for the Bundesliga club.
