Two days ago, AS reported signing Manchester City’s Rodri is the next big goal for Real Madrid.

Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo backs that up and says the La Liga club dream of signing the midfielder this summer. Their title states: ‘Rodri, difficult but not impossible’

Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their midfield after losing Toni Kross and Luka Modrić in the last 12 months. They feel the Manchester City star is potentially good value compared to other targets in their list.

He has a contract until 2027, and the report claims the Spain international would be valued between €100-120m.

The former Atlético Madrid man is said to have never hidden his desire to return to Spain and this, coupled with his contract situation, could favour Real Madrid.

Mundo adds Real Madrid’s chances of securing the Manchester City player’s services would increase if they sell Rodrygo for around €80-100m in this window.

Rodri returned from a serious injury in May and Pep Guardiola’s side clearly struggled in his absence. Therefore, they are determined to retain him and Mundo claim Manchester City are ‘working on finalising his renewal as soon as possible’.

Journalist Antón Meana, writing in his column for Cadena Ser, states Rodri is the only midfielder ‘who can be signed for Xabi Alonso’s project’.

Although there’s a mention of a €100m plus price, Meana insists Manchester City aren’t willing to sell him this summer.

“There’s no indication from Manchester [City] that they’re looking to transfer him, but if Madrid wants a midfielder between now and September 1st, the only one on the market they like is Rodrigo Hernández,” he said.
