This week’s edition of SportBild has a feature on Joshua Kimmich, and how wonderful he is. Signing for Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in 2015, Kimmich has certainly made a mark at the Bundesliga champions, and is still only 22 years of age.

That said, he’s had his run-ins with managers, with Pep Guardiola’s fatherly (in a tough-love way) on-pitch rants hard to forget, and German reports of Carlo Ancelotti not being convinced last season.

Kimmich failing to be prominent for Ancelotti during the last campaign led to transfer interest and SportBild say two clubs were ‘willing to pay’ €50m to sign the player: Manchester City and Barcelona.

Guardiola’s Manchester City have repeatedly been linked with Kimmich, with the connection between player and manager burnt into the transfer psych after the on-pitch Pep-talks.

Michael Reschke, director at Bayern Munich at the time Kimmich was signed, is quoted as saying: “Joshua has a much higher transfer value, and I believe that FC Bayern wouldn’t give Jo up even for €50m.”

It’s that comment which led SportBild to claim Manchester City and Barcelona were ‘willing to pay’ €50m.

How much would it take now? Well, with Kimmich a regular and seemingly happy where he is, it could be even harder to convince the player than come up with a transfer fee to please Bayern.
