Barcelona are keen to sign Manchester City star İlkay Gündoğan when his deal at the Etihad expires on June 30th.
On Thursday, Sport reported the La Liga side are advancing the negotiations to secure the 32-year-old’s services for free in the summer.
This is backed up by Mundo Deportivo, who add that a three-year deal is waiting for the Manchester City star at the Camp Nou. There’s expectation for him to end up at Barca, if there are no further changes.
Manchester City, for their part, haven’t given up on retaining the German. It’s claimed the Citizens ‘will fight’ to keep him at the club and this is only possible if he signs a new deal.
Pep Guardiola and his side want Gündoğan to continue at the Etihad. The newspaper adds they ‘will do everything possible to convince’ him to stay at Manchester City.
Amid the Citizens’ desire to stop the Catalan club from snatching their player, Mundo say his ‘path is set for Barca’. It remains to be seen if Guardiola’s side can change his mind.
City have made it to the Champions League and the FA Cup final. Gündoğan’s immediate focus is to win the treble with them.
