On Wednesday, Sport stated Manchester City ‘insist on’ Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsí as he’s seen as an ideal fit under Pep Guardiola.
The La Liga side signed the 17-year-old from Girona in 2018 and were successful in beating Manchester City for this operation.
That’s according to journalist Xavier Bosch, and he made this claim in today’s column for Mundo Deportivo.
The Blaugrana had ‘outstanding’ reports about the centre-back, when he was at Girona. The Citizens showed keen interest and the deal was ‘practically done’, before the La Liga giants secured his services.
Manchester City’s plan was to send him back on loan to Girona, until he turns 18 years of age. The journalist adds Barca assistant manager Òscar Hernández spoke to the teenager and ‘prevented’ Manchester City from signing him.
According to Bosch, Hernández didn’t present a plan like the one proposed by Manchester City, but showed he can succeed at the Camp Nou. The Spain U17 international made his first team debut last month and he’s made six appearances for them so far.
Bosch says Guardiola’s side will ‘come back’ for Cubarsí and he’s not at all pleased with Manchester City making attempts to take young talents away from Barca.
“I don’t like at all that Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain come to catch the best of La Masia,” he said.
