Manchester City tried to sign rising Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and ‘went all out’ to secure his signature.
That’s according to journalist David Sánchez, who says Manchester City tried but ultimately failed to secure the 16-year-old’s signature.
Yamal is the latest sensation to make his way out of the fabled La Masia academy and is quickly making a name for himself on the world stage.
After impressing for Barcelona at the beginning of the season he has also ‘burst into the elite’ with Spain, making two appearances for Spain in this international break and scoring on his debut in the 7-1 win over Georgia.
According to Sánchez they ‘went all out’ to try and sign the Barcelona youngster this summer but were ultimately unsuccessful in their attempts to do so.
The nature of their bid or attempts isn’t mentioned but it is stated they did everything they could do to try and secure the youngster and lure him away from the Camp Nou.
This has not gone down well with Barcelona, of course, with journalist Rulo Fuentes adding that relations between Manchester City and the Catalans ‘have worsened’ as a result of the effort.
The player’s agent, Enric Masip, has also confirmed that there was a team that asked about him this summer but did not name City.
“Lamine Yamal and Balde have been in a serious situation to leave this summer because there is a club that tried to ‘catch them’,” he is reported as saying.
