Before Nolito joined Manchester City he was very much linked with a move to Barcelona, where the 30 year old had played earlier on in his career. A move to either club was almost certainly going to bring time on the bench and a role as an impact substitute.

That was easy for onlookers to work out, so couldn’t have been too difficult for Nolito himself. Despite that, the Spanish forward has soon become tired with his back-up role, complaining to an extent that he sounds, somehow, shocked.

A return to Spain is on the cards but Manchester City don’t aim to be a charity who provide a jump in wages for footballers and then happily subsidise their football desires elsewhere.

Sevilla have been linked, and Marca report the club’s manager-in-waiting Eduardo Berizzo was asked about Nolito, and confirmed he likes the Manchester City player. However, Berizzo taking over at Sevilla has hit a hurdle, a financial one, and whilst there’s an expectation it’ll get sorted out, Nolito is on ‘standby’ until it does.

Nolito would, as the report goes, be moving to Sevilla on loan with the Spanish club having a purchase option. Manchester City need to be careful, especially after Sevilla’s Samir Nasri loan.

Towards the beginning of last season, Nasri was one of the best players in La Liga, but Sevilla pushed their luck. Pushed to play through injury, rushed back whenever a lay-off was forced, it was clear that sooner or later Nasri’s form, and perhaps his body, would fall to pieces.

It was easy to predict, we did, and subsequent reports in Spain stated that Sevilla never had any intention of using their Nasri buying clause anyway, feeling it was too high.

Given that scenario, Manchester City could probably do with a firmer commitment over Nolito.
