Sunday saw claims from Caught Offside that Manchester City are in a battle with Manchester United to sign FC Porto’s Diogo Costa. It was even stated Pep Guardiola’s side have made a €40m offer for the goalkeeper, something they plan to improve upon because it’s not considered enough.
However, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have gone chasing the claims of an offer arriving from Manchester City.
They keep their report short and to the point. Initially covering what was said in England about the bid being made, and then explaining Costa has a €75m release clause in his contract at FC Porto.
Then it’s stated clearly that Porto haven’t received any offer from Manchester City for their goalkeeper, with the claims of a bid being submitted therefore completely dismissed.
Whilst interest from the Manchester clubs in Diogo Costa has been reported for a long time, and that both clubs often send scouts to watch the Portuguese club, it’s pretty clear no offer has actually been made by either.
