Jeremy Doku’s performances for Manchester City are now sparking debates in Belgium over who is better, him or prime Eden Hazard.

That’s according to Voetbal Primeur, who cover a debate between journalists Fillip Joos and Gert Verheyen on a recent appearance on Sporza’s Extra Time.

Doku joined Manchester City in a €60m deal from Rennes in the summer and has not looked back since, quickly establishing himself in Pep Guardiola’s first team set up.

He’s fully justified his immediate starting role too, with a series of impressive performances to date and three goals and six assists in 13 games so far.

His most impressive performance came in the weekend’s 6-1 win over Bournemouth that saw him manage four assists and one goal in the game.

He appears to be a star of the future in the making, having quickly gotten up to speed with life under Pep Guardiola and fully justified the big sum paid to get him in the summer.

Belgium are watching closely as they hope he can repeat his current feats on the international stage. They very much need a replacement for the recently retired Eden Hazard, and it seems the current debate whether the Manchester City is better than Belgian icon.

“Can I be provocative? If Doku maintains this level, no injuries, would you rather have this type than Eden Hazard on the left wing? Is he more modern as a footballer?” Joos asked.

“Eden is better, I think that’s too early Filip, ask me that again in two years,” responded Verheyen.

“It is true, the better players you play with, the better you become. Training with those top players every day, yes, you go along with that.”
