Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has admitted he was surprised to see Liverpool’s Alisson left out of Brazil’s squad for this international break.
The Manchester City star recently sat down for a press conference ahead of this international set of fixtures, which will see Brazil take on Morocco in a friendly.
There is an air of change about the current selection, with Brazil’s interim coach Ramon Menezes electing to leave out several big names for the game in Tangiers.
Liverpool’s Alisson is one of those who has missed out, despite starting the last two World Cups as the number one for his country.
Menezes refused to explain why the Liverpool man has been omitted, instead insisting that he wanted to hand opportunities to other players, in this case Mycael from Athletico Paranaense and Weverton from Palmeiras.
That decision clearly came as a surprise to his compatriot at Manchester City, who admitted as much when questioned on the subject.
“The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it’s the coach’s decision,” Ge Globo reports him saying.
“They are choices, I thought he would be on the list, but he was not, I do not know why, if it is a matter of opportunities for younger players.
“But we have to work, give our best, every day there is a good new player who can take that responsibility too.
“I think it’s too early for that (talk of him being number one). Of course it is always important to start a cycle, for me it is no different and I hope to start in the best way possible.
“But we know it is a long cycle, many things can happen, you can live many phases during this period. You have to work as hard as possible, maintain consistency so you can be here as many times as possible.”
