Over the past few months, there have been a number of articles written about Manchester City’s interest in AC Milan’s Francesco Camarda.
The player has now turned 16, meaning he can sign his first professional contract, but the Serie A side want to wait until the end of the season so his deal runs until 2027 instead of 2026.
While it’s a logical move, it’s also a risky one, as it allows interested sides, such as Manchester City, to do their own work, as explained by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Following his two goals at the weekend against Belgium’s U17s with Italy’s U17s, all eyes have turned on him again, despite claims he has ‘reached an agreement in principle’ with Milan over a renewal.
However, as mentioned above, they also wonder whether the wait ‘will help Milan or not’, because many big European sides have been after him for some time, including Borussia Dortmund, who are said to be ‘leading the way’.
Meanwhile, Manchester City ‘have the advantage’ of being able to exploit their City Group link with Palermo to keep him in Italy if they sign him until he can move to England when he is 18.
It’s pointed out that while he is just 16, he now needs to make a decision that normally doesn’t happen until 20, which is to stay put or ‘change his life’.
Manchester City will be hoping for the latter.
