The deal between Chelsea and Manchester City for the transfer of Mateo Kovacic should be official in the ‘next few hours’.

That’s reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, who, on his website, features a story saying it’s ‘Kovacic-Day’.

According to the Italian report, the paperwork is already signed, and Manchester City will soon have a press release about their newest transfer.

The Citizens today saw Ikay Gundogan being officially announced as a Barcelona player, and should soon present their own new midfielder.

Back on Friday, we had already seen reports saying Kovacic was about to have his medical and sign a ‘long term’ contract with Manchester City.

Di Marzio’s report just doesn’t say how much Pep Guardiola’s side are spending to take the midfielder from Chelsea, although previous stories had claimed the deal was being made for €30m, with bonuses included.

Kovacic had joined the Blues in 2018 on a loan from Real Madrid, with his move being made permanent in the following year. In five years at Stamford Bridge, he made 221 appearances, and won the Champions League in 2021.
