With João Cancelo returning to Manchester City from his loan at Bayern Munich this summer, it’s been well reported that Barcelona are interested in signing him.
Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo today features a piece on that chase, claiming that even though the Camp Nou side ‘bet’ on this transfer, they know how hard it will be.
Barcelona want Cancelo on a loan, and that’s not something Manchester City seem to be on board with.
It’s said that even though there’s a good relationship between the clubs, the Premier League champions are expected to go after ‘another alternative’ for the fullback.
Mundo Deportivo, however, claims not all hope is lost as Barça are expected to insist on it, and both the player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, will ‘press as much as possible’ to get the transfer done.
Cancelo’s contract with Manchester City runs until 2027, and that’s an advantage for the Catalan side, because even in case of a loan, he’ll still be well protected following the return to Manchester City.
However, since the fullback is no longer in Pep Guardiola’s plans, the English side seem more focused on finding a permanent solution.
