Manchester City are ‘serious about signing’ Anderlecht’s Sergio Gómez this summer, as per Het Laatste Nieuws.
The Premier League winners have already started negotiations with the Belgian club for the left-back.
HLN state Manchester City have turned their concrete interest in the 21-year-old into a ‘formal offer’. The details of the offer are not mentioned, but the Jupiler Pro League side find it ‘insufficient’.
That doesn’t mean the Spaniard won’t have a chance to leave his current employer in the current window. The report states ‘it seems more and more’ that he will end up at City.
At the moment, there is no agreement between the two clubs and that is likely to be case for the next few days. Anderlecht are not going to stop the fullback leaving, but will not let him go for cheap. The report explains they are aiming for at least €15m.
HLN add the player is ‘charmed’ by the project offered by Pep Guardiola & Co. It includes the chance to be part of their first team or be loaned out elsewhere. If Gómez were to go out on loan, Girona is mentioned among the possibilities.
Reports linking the fullback away from Anderlecht don’t worry their manager, Felice Mazzù.
“I’m not worried about the transfer rumours. Every team is confronted with this in this period,” Mazzù was quoted as saying by HLN.
“Sergio is a great player, so of course I hope he stays. But I’m busy with my entire group. What goes on behind the scenes at the moment is less important than my squad, which I try to make as strong as possible. Whether the possible millions of Gómez can provide for other transfers? I never talk about budgets and finances. So not now.”
