Manchester City recently sent scouts to watch the derby between Real Sociedad and Athletic Club Bilbao at the end of September.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that Manchester City officials ‘officially requested passes’ for the derby on September 30th.
These were granted by Txuri Urdin club, although they were only tickets for a ‘good location’ in the stadium and not in the box.
The newspaper states that while it is common for scouts from Europe to come and visit Sociedad, particularly as they are in good form and have several players currently impressing, it is unusual for them to be from Manchester City.
At this moment in time, it is unknown who from Real Sociedad or Athletic Club Bilbao they were there to watch, but they do state that ‘half the Premier League sighs’ for midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
He’s been impressing for a while and, given the current furore over Rodri and how much of a loss he can be for Manchester City, plus the complete lack of a replacement given Kalvin Phillips clearly isn’t to Pep Guardiola’s liking, a move for him would make sense.
That’s just speculation on our part, of course, but the fact is Manchester City sent scouts to Real Sociedad at the end of last month so there is someone they want to keep an eye on.
