Having refused to go all out to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion, Manchester City decided to turn their attention to Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez instead.

The midfielder has managed to reconvert himself into a very impressive attacking wing-back, which has caught the eye of Pep Guardiola and co.

A first bid had already been rejected, and their second attempt was met with the same outcome, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Taking to Twitter, he explained Manchester City put forward €13m + €2m in bonuses and 12% of a future sale, but that wasn’t enough to convince Anderlecht.

That doesn’t mean the Premier League champions will walk away, as ‘talks continue’.

As for Gomez in all this, he’s ‘waiting for the green light’, having already reached an agreement with Manchester City ‘for a contract of four years’.

The 21-year-old was one of the stars of the show last season at Anderlecht, assisting his teammates 15 times and scoring seven goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
