Manchester City are set to ‘reward’ Nathan Aké with a new ‘mega contract’ after his impressive performances for them last season.

That’s according to De Telegraaf and Voetbal International, who say the two parties have ‘entered the final phase of talks’ on a new contract for the Netherlands international.

De Telegraaf state that the Manchester City are set to reward Aké with a new mega contract for his great development under Pep Guardiola in the last few years.

The Premier League champions are keen to ensure that they tie down Aké for the next few years and will make him one of the best paid Dutch footballers in the Premier League, just behind Virgil van Dijk, who currently tops the charts.

According to their insiders at the club, Aké is currently in the group of players earning €150,000 per week, around €8m a year, but his new deal will go closer to €10m with bonuses included.

The renewal has been pushed for by Guardiola in particular, who is closely involved in such matters and has indicated that Aké is of ‘enormous value’ to his team.

Voetbal International back all of this up and state that Aké is ‘going to extend his contract’ with Manchester City and has ‘entered the final phase of talks’ with the club on the matter.

They back up that not only will the defender’s contract be extended but will also be ‘greatly improved’ at the same time. Several years will be added to his current deal, which runs until 2025.

Manchester City are expected to confirm the news soon as they continue to plan for the future and their treble defence.
