İlkay Gündoğan spent seven years at Manchester City before leaving them for Barcelona as a free agent in 2023.
The 33-year-old played a key role in helping the Citizens win the treble during the 2022/23 season. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City were keen on retaining him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Manchester City could be provided with an opportunity to bring the midfielder back to the Etihad this summer.
That’s according to Monday’s edition of Sport, who state the player has asked to leave the Camp Nou. Catalunya Ràdio backs it up and says Manchester City could be an option for him.
Catalunya Ràdio add, relayed by Sport, that the player has contacted Manchester City to find out the possibility of returning to the club in the past few days.
It’s clamed the English champions are open to the idea of bringing him back to the Etihad, a year after he left them.
Mundo Deportivo have relayed Catalunya Ràdio’s claim and add that his role under Hansi Flick isn’t clear yet. In addition to this, his salary will increase this season. He’s 33 years old and has less than a year left on his contract.
Taking these factors into account, Mundo indicate Barcelona would be willing to part ways with Gündoğan in this window.
