Manchester City are now named in the battle for River Plate youngster Franco Mastantuono.
The interest from Pep Guardiola’s side is today mentioned by TNT Sports, who claim there are several clubs following the youngster.
The big news is that Real Madrid are now chasing Mastantuono, while the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona, Paris Saint Germain, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica and Inter Milan are all ‘in the race’ as well.
Mastantuono is just 16 years old, and that’s why this whole situation has now ‘set the alarms’ off at River Plate. His contract expires in December 2025, and the Buenos Aires side are focused on trying to keep him.
What plays on their side is that the youngster only turns 18 in the summer of 2025, so they can keep him for a little longer until he’s able to make a move to Europe.
Manchester City recently signed Claudio Echeverri from the very same River Plate in a €14.5m deal, and the Argentine club now want to give Mastantuono a higher release clause. With so many clubs keen, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his price goes up anyway.
