Claudio Echeverri arrived at Manchester City in January, a year after they completed his signing from River Plate. He played three matches for the Premier League side in the second half of last season.
Manchester City let the attacking midfielder join Bayer Leverkusen on loan in August. The move hasn’t worked out well as he’s been restricted to 240 minutes from eight matches.
Last month, he shared a picture of himself in a River Plate shirt on Instagram. This led to speculation of his possible return to the Argentine club.
On October 30th, Olé stated Manchester City have no plans to send him back to River Plate. They also reported the Citizens plan to send him on loan elsewhere if they decide to cut short his stay in Germany.
Despite this, the 19-year-old has the desire to return to his former club in the winter market. That’s according to TyC Sports journalist Juan Cortese, and Soy del Millo have relayed his comments.
The Argentina U20 international’s contract at Manchester City expires in 2028. According to Cortese, the Citizens are in a comfortable position when deciding Echeverri’s future.
“Claudio Echeverri intends to play for River again, and not just because of his Instagram story. Frustrated by his lack of playing time in Germany, ‘El Diablito’ has the idea of returning in January, although it doesn’t depend on him, but rather on City, who own his contract,” he said.
“Right now, it seems unlikely that City will opt for his return to River in the short term.”
Soy del Millo then adds Pep Guardiola’s side want Echeverri to gain experience in Europe. This would rule out River Plate’s chances of signing him again in January.
